We investigate fluid turbulence and associated transport phenomena by integrating rigorous theoretical frameworks with cutting-edge computations and big-data techniques.

Turbulence is the most common state of fluid motion in nature and technology, influencing everything from weather and environmental processes to aircraft design and energy production. Despite its ubiquity, turbulence remains notoriously difficult to understand and model due to its inherent chaotic nature and the vast range of interacting scales involved, making it one of the most challenging problems in all of science and engineering.

Our group employs state-of-the-art numerical simulations on some of the world's most powerful supercomputers, combined with theoretical and scientific analysis to decipher the fundamental and universal aspects of turbulent flows. The insights obtained are then leveraged to develop transformative models using deep learning techniques for practical applications.

Apr 2025: New manuscript alert! Dr. Buaria's new preprint "Universality of extreme events in turbulent flows", with co-author Dr. Alain Pumir (ENS de Lyon, France), has been published in Physical Review Fluids.
Sep 2024: New manuscript alert! Dr. Buaria's new manuscript "Twisting vortex lines regularize Navier-Stokes turbulence", with co-authors Dr. John Lawson (Univ. of Southampton, UK) and Dr. Michael Wilczek (Univ. of Bayreuth, Germany), has been published in Science Advances.
